Excellent External Drive for All My Devices!
I’m very pleased with the Rioddas USB 3.0 external CD/DVD drive. It’s slim, lightweight, and easy to carry around. Setup was simple—just plug and play with no extra drivers needed. I’ve used it on both Windows and Mac systems, including my MacBook Pro, and it worked flawlessly every time. Reading and writing speeds are fast, and it handles CDs and DVDs without any issues. Great for backups, watching movies, or installing software. Highly recommended for anyone needing a reliable external optical drive!

Good Value External CD/DVD Drive – Works with Windows 11, but Cable is Short
I bought this external CD/DVD drive, and it works as described. The model is BT669. It connects to a computer using a USB port and is powered by DC 5V, 1.5A. The device is light, weighing about 400g, and comes in a compact box (17.2cm × 15.2cm × 2.8cm). It supports both 8cm and 12cm discs and works with DVD and CD formats. The reading speed is DVD-ROM 8x and CD-ROM 24x, while the burning speed is DVD 8x and CD 24x.The packaging says it works with Windows 98, XP, Vista, 7, 8, and 10, as well as Mac OS 8.6 and above. I tested it on Windows 11, and it works fine. Some people say that external CD/DVD writers do not work with Windows 11, but this one does.It is easy to use—just plug it into a USB port, and the computer detects it. You can then insert a disc, and it will read or burn as needed. The build quality feels decent, and it is stable when placed on a flat surface. One issue is that the attached USB cable is too short. You either have to let the drive dangle from the port or use an extension cable. This is not a serious problem, but it is slightly annoying. One star off the review because of that. For the price, this is good value. It does what it should, and apart from the short cable, I have had no issues. If you need an external CD/DVD drive, this is a good option.

Fast, reliable, well built
I regularly buy CDs and then rip them to FLAC format, but my old CD player was very slow since I migrated to Linux Mint. I bought this CD player to see if there was a difference. I'm glad to say that there is an enormous positive difference.I ripped the same CD using both my old CD player and this Rioddas model, and to ensure it was a fair test, they were both plugged into the same USB port. When I finished the test with one, I swapped the drives and then rebooted the computer to ensure there were no residual incompatible drivers lingering. The old CD player took 15 minutes to rip the whole CD. The Rioddas took 7 minutes, which is a significant difference. There were no errors during the reading process (the software I use reports all errors). The old player managed to get up to 3.5 times nominal read speed, whilst the Rioddas got up to 8.5 times, again, significantly faster. When I get a box-set of CDs, it will no longer be an all-day task to rip them. The drive looks and feels like a quality machine, and the eject works properly through software as well as the button. The simple USB-A connector enables connectivity to almost every computer, and it is light enough to put in a backpack so you can use it down at the local coffee house or library. Not tested:1. DVD reading2. CD and DVD writingWith the above two caveats, I would recommend this drive.

Quirky and time wasting
So the old saying of buying cheap is expensive can be associated with this cd/burner in this case it’s more expensive in the amount of time consumed trying to do a simple task. All I want to do is copy CDs over to iTunes on Mac so thought the £19.99 was worth the job as recently bought a load of CDs.Using MacBook Pro m4 for the job and a small connection to the usb A to c plug.Update: 26-7-25 … I’ve thrown it in the bin. Absolute piece of rubbish and I advise everyone to stay clear of it.First problems is you put cd in the tray immediately pops back out … ok so put the cd tray back in and a couple more seconds the tray pops out again. Yes finally the cd spins in the drive and iTunes does it matching click to copy and I’m all good… a few tracks in the cd drive decides it’s had enough and cd tray pops back out. So have to delete the partial album then attempt to go at it again. It might work or maybe the third occasion.Sometimes it loads the track data up I hit copy it then starts up then stops then asks me do I want to copy cd I say yes. Then it repeats in iTunes and the drive starts then pops the cd out leaving me with duplicates again.I’ve got to 9 out of 11 tracks and then the cd pops out. Ive popped the cd in for the tray to pop out 4 times then finally work.I don’t think I’ve swore so much at a piece of hardware. Not sure if it’s the hardware or iTunes software but the fact it keeps popping the tray out randomly and takes ages sometimes to start up makes me think it’s the cd player.Again .. I haven’t got many CDs to copy but I’d hate to be attempting to try an actually burn CDs in this because if it’s popping the tray out just playing imagine all those blank CDs half burnt and wasted.

Good quality, cheap and reliable. A great little drive.
I have had this item for a while now and have found it easy to use and reliable. I bought a mac mini and of course there is no optical drive so i purchase this one. Its good quality with a plastic shell that hasnt been scratched up yet and it simply plugs in to the computer with a USB A lead thats included. No USB C sadly but for the data transfer rate that would be over the top anyway. Computer recognises it straight away. Also a good thing to have for laptops which also mostly have no optical drives these days. I use mine mostly for music archiving and occasional hard back up of music or data. Works flawlessly every time
