Good little dac
After having this a little while now I have to say that if you pair this with a headphone system that is light on the low end the bass to sub bass section, you will love it! As far as volume, don't believe the hype. It's OK, not the loudest thing out, but it is the cleanest. I know that this company has had manufacturing issues in the past but mine seem to work right out the box no leveling issues whatsoever. As a side note if you are using the 400 SE, the 1060 C or the sundaras the second gain level is all you need. Great product Flawless sound you won't be disappointed

No complaints for the price.
Excelent for the price. I paired it with a Raspberyy Pi with a hat DAC and sound is excellent. Tried it with Sennheiser HD58X and HD6XX, and with Hifiman He400. Plenty of volume for all of them without requiring to go past the midpoint in the volume knob. For the moment, I've used it mostly with the 58X and I feel a "clarity" that I didn't feel when paring them with a cheap Rockville Tubehead amp (not to say the rockville amp is bad, it's actually quite nice). Next couple of weeks I'll try it more extensively with the 6XX and the He400, but hoping to get good results too.

Solid unit for the pfice
Sounded good. I ended up returning it for an all in one DAC/amp that sounded just as good for only a couple of bucks more.

Perfect match to Air Dac
Matches perfectly with Ifi Zen Air Dac for streaming. It drives my HiFiMan Sundara headphones with aplomb! With 2 inputs in, 3 gain settings, and a balanced 4.4mm along with standard headphone jack, very functional. Don’t be mislead by description saying only use with ipad, iphone, etc etc. This is a full functioning powerful amp. Ifi Zen does it again. You will need a 5v ac adapter to power this amp properly.

Just didn’t do it for me
I’m sorry to say that this amp just wasn’t it for me. I own a couple Ifi products and really like them, so I thought I’d give this one a shotas a little amp for my office.I could only do like 20 minutes before I decided to return it.I fed this thing off my IFi Zen Dac (standard, not air), and tried a variety of different headphones on different gain settings with largely pretty disappointing results.Sundaras: this was almost completely unlistenable to me. Im not a super loud listener but even at low volumes the upper mids and highs were so shrill they made me wince. I even tried taking my dac out of fixed mode and adjusting the signal level there, but even that only helped a little.Meze 99 classics: this sounded better, and the x-space was kinda cool. The problem here was that with these more sensitive headphones the noise floor was easily apparent with the knob at 12 o’clock on low gain. And when I switched inputs off the DAC I could still hear the the music in medium gain.6xx: this was by far the best of the bunch, and the bass and space boosts sounded pretty good on these. I think if you’re looking for an amp to just use with 6xx you might consider this one. However for a little more money (or even the xduoo mt-602 which is also $100) you could get a tube amp and have fun rolling tubes. . .In the end I just didnt want to spend the money, or desk space, on something that was only usable for one of my headphones. If you’re in the market for a cheap solid state amp just spend a few bucks more in shipping on a Magni, and if you want something that’ll make your Senns sound different, pick up a cheap tube amp.Update: I bought a regular zen can after this and it sounds awesome on all my headphones. Don’t skimp, just get the zen can.

Sounds more like a lead balloon than air
I'm afraid I have to agree with the other less than enthusiastic reviews for this. I'm a big fan of all the previous iFi ZEN lineup but this one is a dud. It lacks all of the sweetness in the more expensive non-Air Zen Can and delivers cold sterile sound you would expect from any cheap headphone amp. The ZEN Air DAC and ZEN Air Phono are both solid wallet-friendly products but skip this one and spend a little more for the big brother Zen Can if you want the sound iFi is highly regarded for.

Absolute trash
I don't know if there's something wrong with mine, but anything below about 150 Hz sounds SUPER distorted. It's literally the worst DAC or amp I've ever heard. I tried it with both an Audio Technica ATH-R70X and a Fostex TH909 and they both had very low, super distorted sounding bass. I tried it with all different settings and it was the same horrible quality with them all.

After adding a proper quality 5v DC power source, might as well get the Zen CAN.
This is a somewhat deceptive product as they sell it with a USB power cable only, and it's really not right. To get the most out of this amp you want to power it properly with a good clean 5v DC signal. If you factor in the cost of the $70 iFi 5v supply, you may as well have just bought the standard Zen CAN which is a much better amp and INCLUDES the power supply. If you are just looking for mediocre sound and power, then using this amp with the included power cable might be right for you.
