Much louder than a regular phoned
Very nice phone. A little pricey but definitely worth it if you need more volume.

Loud and clear for elderly individuals
3 week update - she figured it out in less than 2 days and absolutely loves it. She can now carry on those important calls with her health care professionals and her family. Thank you for a great product that is elderly friendly!I purchased this for a 95 year old client of mine after her hearing tool a turn for the worse. It's a bit of a learning curve for her since she's had the same phone for almost 20 years. I promised her that if she gives it a week, she will get accustomed to it. She is VERY happy with the sound and volume. She can now hear her doctors, her children, grand and great grand children on the phone again!I left 4 stars because I personally feel a few things could be different to make it more user friendly. When the answering machine picks up, the user cannot hear their recording playing out loud but can hear the person leaving a message. This confuses the new user who is used to knowing that someone is going to leave a message as they hear their recording play. The buttons are a bit hard to press for older and more fragile hands. The clarity is manageable with the tone buttons, but sometimes the reception of the person on the other end sounds like they are in a hole. Call blocking seems easy enough. If getting this for an elderly person, be sure to sit with them and make a hand written instruction page for them to see clearly. There are several functions that may confuse them. Show them the basics and focus on those basics. Value for the money is good compared to similar products.

Buy one, you won't regret it!
Works great all over the house, and is able to transfer a cell phone call to act if it is a local call.

Drops calls without warning and zero customer support
I've only had my KX-TGM420 for about a week now. The volume and sound quality is an improvement over my previous Panasonic phone, which never gave me any issues other than clicks during calls and poor sound quality. This one dropped the second call I made mid-call while on speaker phone. The display just suddenly went blank and the call was lost. I could not turn it back on toggling the talk button but it came back on when I put it in the base unit. I re-dialed the dropped number and connected but the person on the other end could not hear me speak at all.The phone was fully charged and within 20 feet of the base unit. I ended using my cell phone to call him. I'm not sure what happened and a trip to the Panasonic site for help was totally useless. I typed a question and the site said the connection was refused or something like that. I tried various questions with the model # and didn't get any help. I like the phones features but if it's going to drop calls randomly from time to time it's going to have to be sent back. I have had two of these wireless DECT 6.0 phones over the years and NEVER had this issue. So I'll just go back to using my my older one with it's constant clicks during calls (that's one reason I bought a new phone) but ZERO drop issues. I can't believe there isn't any way to get any tech support from Panasonic. And it appears others experience this dropping issue as well so I'm not alone. I'm trying new batteries today and reconditioning the old ones but if this is random I might not know soon what the issue is. Looks like I'll just have a make a bunch of calls to determine if it's fixed with the battery conditioning. If only there was ANY tech support to help...can't believe that from a large company like Panasonic!

Thorough review of Black Bluetooth model
Enjoying this phone so far after a few weeks.PROS: 1) Instant call block. (For those confused by the erroneous manual, this phone doesn't have a physical "BLOCK" key as stated. You block calls via the display as the phone rings.) 2) Rounded, indented earpiece with more sound holes than usual; this is kind of an old-fashioned design that conforms to the ear comfortably and, I believe, helps a bit with hearing. 3) Slow Talk function works reasonably well. I've already used it on calls with faster talkers - especially customer service reps with foreign accents at call centers. It's not hugely noticeable (which is good), but it helps a little. 4) Backlit & Talking keypad is wonderful. Having poor eyesight, I've always wanted a phone on which the numbers speak when I press them. This feature is off by default; turn it on! 5) Large, easy to read display with the time & date being the default display as it sits in the cradle. 6) I love the Tone control. Several variations of EQ, quickly switched by a button on the top side, that can help with hearing the other person, depending on their voice & phone quality. I typically go through the tone variations on calls until I find one or more that make that particular caller's voice easier to hear.CONS: 1) Can't synch the same musical ring tone between the handset & base. The base doesn't HAVE any musical ring tones. For example, the handset has a great "2001 Theme" that I use, but that melody is not on the base options, so I have 2 clashing rings on incoming calls. Turning down or off the base ringer also turns down or off the Talking Caller ID, which I need on at full volume. Therefore I really can't use the musical ring tones on the handset; I have to use the standard, boring rings that the base also has, so they both match. Colossal screw-up by the designers. If you're going to put in musical melodies as ring tones, have them on BOTH the handset & base, so that when the phone rings, you hear just the one melody! Otherwise they're worthless. 2) At this extravagant price point, and with only one phone included, the base should've included its own display & keypad, as many AT&T and other phones in this price range often have. Panasonic disappointingly cheaped out on that. The base unit is nothing special, believe me, other than the flashing red light when the phone rings. 3) The location of the volume buttons on the side is only slightly above where your thumb naturally goes as you hold the phone; I frequently hit the Volume Down button accidentally. I had this problem with previous Panasonic phones. Just amazing they haven't learned, after all these years, NOT to put large important buttons in the exact place where you hold the phone! They should either relocate these buttons or recess them so your thumb won't be hitting them so often.Handset is slightly heavier than most; I like that, it's sturdily built. Regarding the Bluetooth functionality, it recognized my cell easily. However, I don't have service on my cell currently, so I can't give you feedback on how well it connects when using it to make or receive calls with the Panasonic.Overall it's my favorite phone I've ever owned. I typically send things back on Amazon that I think I won't be more than, say, 80% happy with (90% for expensive items like this), and I'm keeping this. It has some annoyances as I mentioned, but I can live with those. It's nice to have a good-looking phone with several functions I actually USE, such as call block and talking keypad, that also has various ways to help me to hear people more clearly. Bottom line, you have to pay the too-high price to get all these features.UPDATE: Just had a 4 hour conversation with a very quiet talker on her Iphone 7. I could barely hear her at first. Perfect opportunity to really put this phone's features to work. I kept changing the tone control as she spoke; got some relief there, but not for long. Had to keep going through them for a lot of the conversation; one EQ setting would work for a while then I'd have to switch to another. I couldn't find one good setting to keep it on. I then kicked in the Boost for the first time. It raised the volume level adequately at the default settings of 15 to 18, but at higher settings it was ear-splittingly shrill and had to be turned down. I left it on 18 for the rest of the conversation and it worked pretty well. She was louder, but not clearer; I still had to keep changing tone settings frequently to try to enhance her clarity. I eventually put her on speaker, which worked well; I could hear her fine & vice versa. A concerning thing happened though; we were suddenly disconnected. I checked the battery; it was half gone but okay (so from that you can determine that 4 straight hours of chatting with Boost enabled depletes a fully charged battery by a little more than half.) She swore it was not her phone, which she's very used to & says it does not randomly disconnect. If it was mine, which seems likely, I don't know why it happened. I was directly next to the base. Nothing unusual happened; I was right in the middle of a sentence, there was a loud click and she was gone. Overall, I'd rate the features I used in the chat 3 stars out of 5. I just *couldn't* get the clarity I was hoping for, even with the phone pressed hard against my ear the whole time, but I did get the extra volume, and was able to hear her better by constantly adjusting the tone settings to try to match her voice quality at any given time. (This was a big pain - but with a normal talker, you wouldn't have to mess with it so much.) But I think of it this way: without these features, using some other phone, I probably wouldn't have been able to hear her at all.UPDATE 2: Having had several more conversations, I've experienced a couple more random disconnections. It has nothing to do with the battery charge or distance from the base unit. I can go 2-3 hours, then it suddenly decides to disconnect. In the most recent call, it did it again minutes after the person called me back from the first disconnect. I've removed the phone lines from my surge protector in case that was the problem. I'll see if this helps, over time. Also, I don't think too much of the BOOST feature. I've used it several times, it always has the same effect: boosts the voice & line noise, but doesn't help clarity. I do love most of the features of the phone, but it doesn't help much with hearing other people clearly.
