You can cut big branches without applying a lot of pressure.

I bought these loppers to replace an old pair that are absolutely useless. The old set have a scissor cutting action and the blades move apart when they cut trapping the wood between them and getting stuck in the process. These Tabor loppers have an anvil action. This means that the cutting blade is forced onto a flat surface to cut the branch and there is no scissor action. I explain this a little better in the video.The Tabor loppers are really good to use. They cut cleanly, feel solid and will deal with reasonably thick branches easily. I think that the manufacturer's claim of cutting 5cm green wood and 4cm dry hard wood are a little optimistic. I reckon you could manage 4cm green and 3cm dry which is still pretty impressive. Even so these loppers are very capable and will deal with thin stuff just as well as the thicker stuff. The extra length in the handles means a little more leverage for thicker branches.I found myself picking them up way more than I did my old ones and they did not let me down at all. These put a smile on my face several times this morning during a heavy gardening session. I am glad that I decided to spend a little more money for a professional pair.

I spent a lot of time looking through Amazon reviews of long loppers before making this purchase. I have noticed a trend with many tool manufacturers these days is that they make tools that are only just up to the job of "light use". In the reviews it was clear to see that the telescopic handled ones always fail in the handles first. Most of the "geared" options fail there. Ones with riveted blades means they are not interested in replacement parts.So, I went for something as mechanically simple as I could find that used nuts and bolts rather than rivets.This product feels good quality, it's heavy and nothing is loose. If anything does work loose, I can simply get a spanner onto it myself.In use they are a piece of cake. They go through branches cleanly and effortlessly.It's early days but I can see me getting a lot of use out of these.

I've seen a lot of loppers over the years and none has come near to my old Rollcut Anvil ones of 1970 vintage that still perform well today. No bypass lopper has that sort of stamina.However, these Tabor ones are actually superior to the Rollcuts in their cutting capacity! Unless you have more muscle than mechanical sympathy, I'd say that 3cm is the thickest branch (depending on the wood of course) that is reasonable to cut with them, even cutting with the grain. Yes: the jaws open to 5cm but you'll have less mechanical advantage at that size and the handles will have to be very wide apart. Above 3cm, a bow-saw is the tool of choice for me.Don't confuse these loppers with the ratchet type, which are a pain to use. The Tabors are quite heavy but very sturdy. I'm delighted to have found them!

I liked the fast delivery BUT... if you get taken in by all the pictures showing it about to cut far larger branches than it will cut.Also the label ... TABOR Tools....Kibbutsbeit rimon Israel and when you turn it over and read the back of it ...made in Taiwan .So I have a very nice red handled - vin ordinary pair of over priced anvil loppers that dropped in price by £11.00 a few days after I purchased them.So buyer beware and have a look at the Amazon look a likes you could do better for not a lot more money.

Good loppers, but does not really cut 5cm branches with ease any more than other decent loppers of these dimensions that I have used. How thick will depend very much on the type of wood and its condition/age. I would say 3cm with ease, and 4cm+ with some effort if the wood is fairly hard. On the plus side it looks and feels solidly made, does a good job, and I expect it to last longer than my last ones, which deformed under the strain of cutting larger branches, eventually becoming unuseable. Another plus point is they are constructed with bolts and not cheaply with rivets, so it would theoretically be easy to replace the parts.Four-and-a-half stars would be my opinion of these, I do like them.
