The lip guard is perfect
Im so glad I bought this. I bought this particular one because there is a little guard on the lip, so when draining your rice won't slip over the edge.

I wish I had gotten this sooner!
I have been washing rice for 50 years, and finally found the best bowl to use! I have washed and rinsed rice in the rice cooker bowls, rinsed rice in rice strainers, and finally have this bowl which allows me to swirl the rice in water well, and drain easily in one container. I have a ceramic bowl in my rice cooker that I don't want to scratch while rinsing rice in it. This bowl has a solid bottom which allows the water to not drain as you wash. It's also has an angled flat bottom so that you can leave it on the counter if you get distracted, and the water won't leak out. I had to get one for my sister because I felt guilty being able to wash rice so easily now. It's easy to get any rice that's stuck in the bowl after dumping the washed rice into a pot/rice cooker unlike my old plastic rice strainer that held on the rice and I had to pick it out. With this bowl, I just wipe my hand against the sides, and the rice drops down easily. Very happy with this purchase!

Durable and large, but not particularly well-designed.
Purchased October 2024, for about $16.The stainless steel construction on this washing bowl is a substantial improvement over plastic alternatives -- especially in ease of washing and durability, but the design of the bowl leaves a lot to be desired. This bowl is for "rice" -- but smaller grains of rice either get stuck in the holes or are washed out with the water. If the holes were just 20-30% smaller, this wouldn't happen -- and it's a very baffling decision.Regardless, it washes rice well and is easy to clean. If they solved that minor design issue, I would wholeheartedly recommend it.

Perfect for Washing Rice and Easy to Use
The Helen's Asian Kitchen Japanese Rice Washing Bowl has made washing rice a breeze! The 3-quart capacity is perfect for preparing rice for small to medium-sized meals. The side drainer works incredibly well, allowing me to easily drain the rice while washing it without making a mess. The bowl design ensures that water flows through the rice evenly, helping remove excess starch for perfectly cooked rice every time.I love the durable, high-quality construction of the bowl. It’s lightweight yet sturdy, and the material doesn’t absorb any odors, making it easy to clean. The ergonomic handles also make it comfortable to hold and pour without spilling. This bowl is not just for rice—it’s also great for washing beans, quinoa, or other grains. It’s such a useful tool in the kitchen! This product offers great value for money, excellent functionality, and is easy to use. If you’re looking for a high-quality, efficient rice washing bowl, I highly recommend the Helen's Asian Kitchen Japanese Rice Washing Bowl! Highly recommend!

definite upgrade over Inomata, for people that need to CLEAN grains
the plastic Inomata washing bowl had poor drainage, the rice tended to spill over when trying to "wash" with the front slits, and the bottom drain holes were pretty useless. This stainleess steel bowl performs much better.Smooth surface: It's easier to rub the grains against the surface without hurting the hands as they slide without catching. It's even possible to agitate the grains just by angling the water stream near the drain holes(water pressure required).Better drainage: Denser liquid(clouded with junk/chems) had less trouble going through these holes than the plastic bowl, which would get trapped even between the front slits. When the holes are tilted downwards, it pretty much always drains.Non-perfortated and angled bottom: I thought this would be bad, but it is actually a boon. You can tilt upright to hold water for washing when needed, and tilt down to drain, or tilt up with a water stream going for a continuous rinse(for floatin gunk that is hard to get off with downward drain). There's much more control when the drainage isn't random.grain-retaining top piece: This works very well. Allowing for drainage while the grains don't spill over at all.If you only need to swish some rice around in water, then the plastic bowl is adequate. If you need to Wash your grains Hard, then you should at least upgrade to this bowl. Even if not, it still has superior performance.
