Heavy gauge wire coutting.
It is easier to use to cut heavy guage wire. Cut high tensile fence wire and works like a charm. Easier than side cutter style plier.

What A Disappointment
Having owned other products by HK Porter I purchased this cutter because of its size. I needed a small wire cutter to keep in my portable tool chest. I have been using them extensively to cut down small brads. When I went to use them the other day I noticed that a small chunk of metal was missing from one of the blades. This cutter was the perfect size for my needs. I am tempted to by another pair chalking the first one up to maybe a manufacturing defect. Stay tuned

Don’t buy, not very good.
I bought these and used less than 10 time on a lighter gauge cable wire at work before they no longer would cut the wire. The return window ended (which was only a month) so thankful, I called Amazon and the nice and polite Amazon representative still gave me a full refund without having to send back. These just won’t hold up to wire cable.

Working Wire Whackers
Until now all I had was some feeble diagonal pliers for cutting fence wire. I place wire "cages" around plants to protect them from browsing and antler-rubbing deer. The HK Porter tool zips right through the heavier gauge wire I had wanted to use for some time. Thanks for the good price and quick response.

Five Stars
Great for the price. I use them to cut saltwater fishing hooks.

Barely makes the cut
I bought the Porter wire cutters to do *exactly* what the decription says it does :"HK Porter PWC9 Wire Cutter has center cut blades to cut mild steel up to 5/32 inch diameter or hard steel up to 3/32 inch diameter".I work with hot glass, and the mandrels I use are mostly 3/32 hard steel, welder's rod. They often get bent at the end rendering them less than ideal. For a long time I have been replacing them when all that was required was cutting off a little bit. I decided to get a wire cutter which was up to the task and retool my bent mandrels.I just received it and tried to cut 1/2 inch off the end of one of my 3/32 rods. I seriously dented but did not cut through in the first pass. My husband took it and was able to cut through the rod, in several cuts. As someone else noted the leverage is very poor. It is not spring loaded and does not have a gear or anything which would make cutting through a heavy steel wire easier.I am wondering if it would not be easier to use the cut-off blade on my Dremel Dremel 7700-1/15 MultiPro 7.2-Volt Cordless Rotary Tool Kit, or, though it is overkill, the reciprocating saw PORTER CABLE Bare-Tool PCL180RS 18-Volt Cordless Reciprocating Saw (Tool Only, No Battery or SKIL 9216-01 120-Volt 9-Amp Reciprocating Saw. though I would feel silly using a 10 lb saw to cut a 3/32 wire, I am sure it would make fast work of it.It is possible to cut the wires it was described as specifically made to cut, but it is not easy. I bought mine on close out from a home improvement store for a very good price and am still thinking of returning them because of the amount of effort and time required to cut a 3/32 hardened steel rod, which is what I bought it for and where it would see the most use around my house. Given that I have several dozen mandrels to retool it is well worth my while to get something which makes the job easier. For most jobs around the house or yard these should suffice. I am using them at the upper limit of what they were rated for, and with hardened steel of that diameter, they work but not well.

Didn't cut barbed wire very easily
The wire cutters did cut the barbed wire fence but I had to really, really squeezed and bend back and forth to get the wire cut. I think HK Porter needs to figure out a way to use leverage in their wire cutters. If I knew how these wire cutters worked, I would have kept looking for something that would perform better.

Clean cut bicycle deraileur cable and housing
This is a good cable cutter to cut my mountain bike derailleur cable and the housing. It gave one clean perfect cut without hesitation on derailleur cable. For the cable housing, you may need couple try to finish the job but it also yielded a clean acceptable cut. I suggest this product to all bikers who don't want to spend over 40 bucks on cable cutter. This tool can do the job nicely.
