Nektar NX-P very good budget expression pedal

I wanted to make my own expression pedal with a toe switch, to use with my Fender Tone Master Pro modeller. The official pedal was £160, which was rather steep. I'd seen a YT video of someone modding this pedal with a toe switch, so I though I'd have a go myself. It was actually very easy and works well.Having to take the pedal apart to modify it, I could see it was built to a decent standard and was pretty robust. I've seen better pedals but they have cost a lot more than this. It's plastic, so not as robust as a metal-bodied pedal, but if you do plan to jump up and down hard on an expression pedal, then that's the sort of thing you should be looking for in the first place. It does have a metal base-plate, which adds some weight and helps keep it in position on the floor. The treadle works smoothly and sends a full-range travel signal to the Tone Master Pro, so no problems there. The minimum output control also worked well.I can't comment on its longevity, but it won't be a hard job to fit a new pot if necessary.Overall I'm very impressed for the money.

Good

Arrived quickly and well boxed. Seems strong enough for home studio use. Decent size and weight and good floor grip too. Long TRS cable. Works on all my devices... Boss Sy1, Novation Launchkey midi controller. Would have given 5 stars for price point but cant remove TRS from pedal as it is hard-wired. Also, not sure how smooth the sweep is on it. By that i mean that Im not sure it is giving you every tiny bit of the sound sweep and there might be slight flat spots but it's only very marginal. Saying that it is silent and smooth to operate. For the money its good and does the job for me and is very cheap compared to others out there.

excellent.

good accuracy, looks good, feels quality, so much better than most generic pedals.

Good value, works great with Line 6 M9

The down side: it's plastic with a metal base. Still, plastic Behringer pedals seem to survive quite well. The actuator linkage is also plastic with a smear of silicone grease; that is probably not going to last for ever but it will probably outlast the pot so not to worry. The up side: price. The M-Audio one is cheaper, yes, so this is a compromise.I just acquired a second-hand Line 6 M9 pedal and wanted a cheap expression pedal to evaluate the M9's potential as a gigging pedal. Using switch position 2 and the "sensitivity" control at full (which means it is at zero effect, not interfering) I can control the selected parameter(s) on the M9. Setting up the M9 is another topic - if you are using auto save you must switch off all effects before unplugging the expression pedal or you lose what you just set up; best to use manual save.If you're not worried about warranty, or if the lead eventually breaks and you are able to DIY it would not be difficult to replace the fixed lead, or there's plenty of space to install a stereo (TRS) jack socket to use with a suitable lead.Edit: I notice that when using this with the Line 6 M5/M9 pedals, you cannot set 100% value for any parameter. Like some other expression pedals there is a small 1k resistor in series with the potentiometer, so to get 100% you would have to modify the pedal to bypass the resistor. In practice I haven't found it a problem.

Nektar expression pedal

Works smoothly, and terrific value for the money. The lightweight plastic construction may put some people off. The cable comes attached to the pedal, so you can't plug in your own.

Works fine

Seems to work fine and cheaper than the official version.

This works!

I got this as a cost effective way to use a wah pedal as i have an entirely virtual rig. Using it in conjunction with Bias FX 2 and it works like a charm. The pedal is very sensitive though thats the only downside.

Yamaha MODX tested. Linked expression pedal to “Super Knob”

Sceptical purchase, but as this was way lower in price compared to the “recommended” item I figured I’d give it a whirl. So I’m using a Yamaha MODX synth, plug in to port 2 on the synth (not port 1). Set the switch on the base to 2. Turn the trim dial all the way down and hey presto, works perfectly. Can now control the Super Knob via this expression pedal, which (if you’ve not tried this) is so useful. It literally changes the way you perform. As for the pedal..the base frame section is plastic, but part of the upper section (the pivotable pedal assembly) is constructed of metal, plastic and rubber, giving the pedal a pretty comfortable feel and a nice bit of weight. Actually it’s surprisingly well weighted for the price and a joy to use. There’s plenty of cable, so no issues there. The packaging was good and everything works as it should. Other than the plastic frame around the base (which is the flimsiest part) I can’t think of anything negative (bearing in mind the price). Definitely a recommended purchase over the pricey alternative.
