Good choice for NATF
This has become my axe of choice for throwing in NATF league. I used this axe exclusively this past league and definitely recommend it. After 8 weeks of throwing approximately 100 throw a week the handle has finally developed a crack. I taped it and it hasn't broken yet, but I expect it to break soon. Considering I'm close to 1000 throws and it is still hitting bulls eyes, and considering its a $25 axe, I am impressed. At that price I ordered a second one to have as a backup in the event it breaks during a tournament. A few things to note. 1. Both of the axes I received are different from the photo. They both have a blue painted finish around the edges of the axe/ hammer head. I like the blue, so it's no big deal, but if you are expecting shinny steal then you might be disappointed. I cut a 45 angle at the bottom of the handle to make a pinky rest, and I sanded the handle with 220 so it is butter smooth for a nice clean release. I did reprofile the blade on one of them with a belt sander to get it nice and thin, I don't think it is necessary, but every little bit helps. Over all if you are looking for an inexpensive axe for throwing this Vaughan is hard to beat.

Great hand axe for the price
While I like this hand axe, the manufacturer needs to improve on their handle attachment. In a short time, and with moderate use, the axe head became loose on the handle. I noticed that the two flat steel wedges had started to work their way out of the handle end. As a result the axe head began to creep off the handle.I can remedy this by replacing the two flat steel wedges with a single new "tubular" shaped steel wedge, hammered into the shim and handle end grain. Still, the manufacturer should have used tubular steel wedges to securely affix the head to handle.

Not your normal hammer
Not your normal drywall hammer. I bought this hatchet/hammer in February of 2021. I used it for wood framing and it works wonders!!! The clear coat/weather coat has finally worn down/off. That is from the hammer being left out in the bed of a truck. It really is a strong well made hammer for $35! Will buy again if this first one ever gets destroyed.

Not the best for throwing
This is a solid axe if you need it for work or camping. The blade geometry, despite being rather dull from the factory, is really good for splitting small logs for kindling. The hammer side is very handy as well for driving tent spikes. But it's not really the best for competitive throwing. That same blade shape that makes it a good splitting axe makes it difficult to stick into a target of fresh boards. Sure if you throw it hard enough, it will work, but you're better off with a thinner blade like the one you get with the $15 half-hatchet from ACE Hardware. Again, terrific axe, great quality, but not the best for throwing.

Muy buena para todo tipo de usos que se espera para un hacha pequeña.
Me gustó la calidad de los materiales,el balance y el peso, sobre todo la forma de la cabeza del hacha, fuera perfecta si estuviera más afilada, pues vino con poco filo.

Great little axe!
Great little axe. I modified this axe and gave it to my father for Christmas. He loves it, it's his new camping axe!

Pass
Sharpening an ax on a grinder ruins the temper. Thats just what was done, and very poorly I might add. A poor product
