Paramed Oral Underarm Rectal Thermometer

I took this with me to my doctor's appointment today and it was inaccurate. It read 99.1 while the doctor's thermometer read 98.1. The directions say to hold under your tongue or armpit for FIVE MINUTES after the unit beeps 4 times (which is normally when the reading is complete, based on every other digital thermometer I've owned). Do you know how hard it is to keep a thermometer under a sick kid's tongue for 5 minutes? I wouldn't have bought it had I known that. I bought this to replace a forehead reading type that broke after 3 uses; other similar temporal lobe type units had bad reviews, so I decided to buy this. It costs too much to return this, or I would.

This product is a complete waste of money. You might as well post a bunch of temperatures on a dart board and just throw darts because that is how predictable this thing is. I took my temperature 5 times in a row, 98.0, 95.2, 96.4, 97.5, 97.1. Complete crap!

After a dozen readings over four weeks, this thermometer has never yielded a normal 98.6 F reading. It always reads lower, the last reading being 96.0 F. Doctor's office always reads normal or +-.1 F. I tried holding it under my tongue in a variety of positions, but no improvement in readings.Instructions say wait for a beep. It has never beeped, and if I wait long enough, the LCD just goes off. Very disappointed in this product, especially since it is too late to return for refund. Many reviewers like theirs, but I must have gotten a defective unit. So if you take a chance on this thermometer, I advise immediately testing it thoroughly and returning it if it isn't accurate.

I got this thermometer as an extra to put in my diaper bag in case I need it for my 8 month old baby. I like that this digital thermometer came with instructions manual and has C/F unit to select for reading. I also like that the display screen is big which makes it easier to read and the probe is soft & flexible and made of rubber which makes it more comfortable for my baby when taking a rectal temperature. I also tried to pull the metal probe tip just to make sure it’s attached securely to the rubber probe and so far it is. Looks like it is made of quality materials too. The battery part is located on opposite of the tip which is easy to pull and replace. And you can also see the battery life in the display screen. The only thing I don’t like about this thermometer is the on/off button which is also made of rubber. You have to press it harder and can sometimes hurt your finger. As for the accuracy of the reading, I tried to get a rectal temperature for my baby with this thermometer and compared it with the other digital thermometer that I was using and I came up with two different readings so I am not sure about the result. The difference is a little bit significant so I have to do a little more research on both products but so far I like this thermometer.

I wish that it had some kind of signal that let you know that the temperature had reached the limit.

Easy to use/read instructions. Beeps slow when temperature is in normal range. Good addition to my medicine cabinet.

Accuracy and convenience for when you are under the weather.

Worked for 3 months and died. Battery is almost impossible to get out. Easy to use and was accurate.
