My review of "Twitter for Dummies"
This book could benefit from a better index. For example, the main reasons I bought it were to learn how to send tweets and retweet. The former was not listed at all and the directions for the latter are difficult to execute on my computer. At 68, I'm not technically savy and consequently need clear, simple and specific instructions with diagrams which reflect those on my computer. Unfortunately, yours do not which means that I'm still unable to complete those tasks.I'm beginning to learn how to send the same tweet to my followers, but have not yet found out how to do several other tasks and am hoping your book will help in those areas. Several people have made requests to follow me yet when I have pressed "accept" their names have not appeared on my list of followers. Finally, I'm working on my lists now and do not yet know whether your book has been helpful enough in that area.I hope that this frank critique is useful.Sincerely,W. Walker

Very useful, but a little out dated
Very useful, but a little out dated. It gives you a sound base of information to build on and is an excellent launching pad to help you explore the possibilities..

Twitter Changes too Fast for a Book
Luara Fitton, Michael E. Gruen ans Leslie Poston's TWITTER FOR DUMMIES may have been outdated by the time it came off the press. Twitter changes so fast that the only was to learn it is to become familiar with the basic terms (provided in this book) and then get out there and use it for a limited time every day. Choose different times of the day and night then your individual tweet may not get lost among the shear volume of tweets. My advice is practice on friends and family before you tackle the mass of users. This is one title that could benefit from being an e-book with instant updates. It is a huge world out there in Twitter land and many of the hints are good, but by now have been over used so much they resemble spam.Nash Black, author of SANDPRINTS OF DEATH

"Twitter BY Dummies"
I HAVE A MASTER'S DEGREE IN ENGINEERING AND COMPUTER SCIENCE AND HAVE BEEN A SYSTEMS ENGINEER AND CONSULTANT TO MAJOR INTERNATIONAL CORPORATIONS FOR MANY, MANY (TOO MANY) YEARS. I ABSORB COMPUTER HARDWARE INTERNALS REFERENCE MANUALS AS QUICKLY AND EASILY AS THE SUNDAY COMICS.I'm just trying to get up-to-date with "Twitter" and this is NOT the book. This book should be called "Twitter BY Dummies" because 1) The first 20 pages repeats and repeats and repeats and repeats why ppl use Twitter: To share, record, advertise, feedback, stay in touch, etc... over and over and over and over again. They had me on page 1.2) Then two pages on how to choose a name and why a good, short name will get you high up in a Google's search (which they erroneously call "SEO", Search Engine Optimization -- over and over, since they think it's so important for you to know this misnomer). 3) Then there are two pages on how to enter your email address to sign up (DUH).4) Then it jumps into finding contacts on Twitter to "follow", ALL ALONG NEVER DEFINING "FOLLOW" OR "TWITTER". I NEVER USED TWITTER. I KNOW ALMOST NOTHING ABOUT IT, EXCEPT THREE WORDS: TWITTER, TWEET, AND "FOLLOW", BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE.I WANT TO KNOW WHAT THIS THING DOES AND AND HOW IT DOES IT (ON A HIGH LEVEL) AND THESE TWO MOST IMPORTANT THINGS ARE NEVER DISCUSSED OR DEFINED IN A BOOK CALLED "TWITTER FOR DUMMIES" AND YET PPL ARE GIVING IT RAVE REVIEWS. WHY???OH! Here is the definition of Twitter--on page 272 (why didn't I start there??): "Can be used as a verb but not as a noun. Note:Don't say "twit" because that word has negative connotations in some parts of the world." Well, that's funny, but WHO CARES! Not only is this not a definition of anything, but they don't tell you to use the word "tweet". (You should hear what Kathy Griffin calls it.) (BTW, "Twitter" *IS* a noun--a proper noun. What DUMMIES fer sher! DUH.What does it mean to "follow" someone? Isn't that illegal? Don't they call it stalking? What does Twitter DO?How is information "SHARED"? Like, LITERALLY, WHAT DOES IT PHYSICALLY DO...WHAT DO PPL **SEE** HAPPENING WHEN I "TWITTER" AND WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO TWITTER?When and IF I ever learn about this thing, I will send this review. In the meantime, they've lost me @ page 26, "Finding Contacts", which I don't what to or need to do until I know what this Twitter thing IS and physically DOES.AGAIN, I ABSORB COMPUTER HARDWARE INTERNALS REFERENCE MANUALS AS QUICKLY & EASILY AS THE SUNDAY COMICS, BUT "TWITTER BY DUMMIES" IS NOT THE WAY TO GO.

Twitter What???
The book is okay. I'm certainly not a dummy, but the authors sure do repeat a lot of the same unusable information over and over. Books like this should get to the point, step by step and leave out all the extra "why" stuff that's already been covered. I had to take a break from reading the book, but I'm sure I'll get back to it again.

Twitter for Dummies
I read 3 books on Twitter in 3 weeks ... This wasn't the most detailed of the 3 I read but it was a good overview -- I liked the humor and straightforward writing style of the authors

SLIGHTLY HEAVY COVERAGE OF TWITTER
It does show the full scope and usefulness of Twitter but as a rank beginner it didn't help me very much. I just wanted to know the technical details of getting my posts seen by the right people, what @ and # were used and how to make posts over 140 ch long. The black & white screen shots were almost impossible to read - much better to use larger schematic illustrations. Still worth buying though as not much out there.

Gives an idea of Twitter
Being a new user of Twitter I purchased this book. Although it is useful in a lot of ways, it was a bit too technical for me. Do they do a book called Twitter for Extra Dummies?

Does what it says on the in tin ...
Got what I needed from this book together with a bit more (!) so am well pleased. It covers everything you need to know in plain language so it suited me down to the ground.
