TITAN SIDEKICK II - Locking 15 Gallon Fuel Transfer Tank

Very expensive gas can
2016 Ram 2500 short bed fail. It fits but the brackets while technically useful, fail to provide much in the way of secure mounting for my application. Maybe they designed for the more popular Ford. Value is debatable but $450 retail is absurd. No drain plug or low line fuel outlet is hard to understand. There ought to be two down low for gravity feed set up but maybe a DOT issue. Goes back to value and other parts needing to be purchased. All in all it is a great gas CAN that has to be siphoned from rather than poured. The material and construction seem high quality with some uniformity differences in cosmetic appearance of finish. Not a cosmetic piece, of course. Not compatible with my tonneau cover Retrax Pro. The latching mechanism hits the tanks as it slides back. Removed the Retrax, reluctantly, just to find the summer sun balloons the tanks and cause leaking around cap. 15 gallons fit easily for capacity which was good. Tanks fit loosely with brackets provided despite multiple alternate attempts to secure. NOT compatible with any Truck Camper. The are too wide to allow much chance of slide in camper fitment and fill cap will be blocked. My time with pre purchase technical support was extensive but proved to be a complete waste as the purchase was a fail. I can not use these and am stuck selling used as restock, return ship, and the fact diesel was entered to tanks. Prime would probably take back without the fuel but my purchase was not Prime dang it. In close, buy these at a cost of $150 each and use for non off road applications and expect to spend time and money getting a useful transfer set up.Update: 5/22/2019I've put these in another truck and noticed that UV damage to the finish is occurring. Looking chaulky and appears to be breaking down the material. The shape is a bit bulbous. I have modified the mounting brackets to try and maintain room for slide in truck camper but the bulge is preventing install of camper. The height of the product is interfering with a bed cover, Retrax Pro, both on the rails and the locking latch when sliding. This on 2018 Dodge Ram short bed 2500. Total time in bed of truck is less than 6 months two different trucks but same model and configuration. Still regret my purchase. Titan does not really care to offer any solutions when contacted. Too bad for me. Hope this helps others make an informed decision.

Titan Sidekick for Ecodiesel
I bought the 15 gallon sidekick for my ecodiesel over 3 years ago. I have a tonnaeu cover and was worried that it wouldn't fit but it fit perfectly and it doesn't take any extra bed space. I had issues with the siphon hose right away it was way to long so I cut it to length. You must use a funnel to insert it a truck fuel tank or the anti siphon system on the truck will pinch the hose. I put a mark on the hose at the correct length to the bottom of the sidekick, if you bump the bottom of the tank the ball bearing goes sideways and losses suction. It usually takes me about 10 strokes to get the siphon as long as the hose stays straight up and down while in the tank. The hose started getting kinks in it after about 6 months. In the summer time I don't recommend filling it up all the way. I did once and when I unscrewed the cap after a couple days it was pressurized (from the heat I'm guessing) and I spilled about a half gallon. It is almost impossible to get all the fuel out, it usually goes air bound with a few gallons left in the tank. I started using rubber gloves when I use it because it is almost certain you get fuel on your hands. It works fine if you have plenty of time to wait. Bottom line, I was looking for convenience and it is anything but. I think I would have been better off just keeping a 5 gallon tank tied down in the bed.

Works as expected but I question if it's worth $400 for a big plastic can.
The tank is well made and easy to install. It doesn't take up much room. I wish the filler hole was on the other end of the tank. The tank was exactly what I expected except that I wanted to have the tanks installed with the big end toward the cab. The problem I found was that the filler hole would be against close to the cab. I have a clamshell cover and wouldn't be able to fill the tanks. I wanted two tanks on the same side and can not do that now.

Fits Nissan Titan CC 5.5' short bed
I installed on Nissan Titan Crew Cab short bed (5.5' bed) . Had to mount behind the wheel well as it would not quite fit in front of it. On the longer bed lengths it should be no problem to fit on either side. On a 8' long bed you could fit 4 of them. I have attached photos and a drawing of dimensions. Only problem when I received it was ground rod that is mounted internally was loose in the tank. Had to fish it out and pull the grounding plug from the rubber grommet and re-thread it in and used loctite to keep it from coming back out. If you have to do this make sure and use a electrically conductive thread locker or maybe solder to make sure it stays put.

When you need that little extra diesel.
Got this product for a backup in case I wasn't near a diesel station. Fairly easy install, but you will need to drill some holes in your pickup bed. I grounded the grounding strap to the mounting plate screw. The only thing I wish was better is the fuel cap needs to be able to lock. Everything to install was included.

Gets the job done, but could impress with electric transfer pump option and fuel gauge
I can squeeze about 12 gallons into this tank and get nearly all of it out using an electric pump. The siphon hose is really a non-starter and kinda ghetto. The tank would really rate higher is it came with an electric transfer pump option and a gauge.

Very easy to install
Just what I needed. Now we have a fuel reserve when going out west or places where gas stations are scarce. Very easy to install.

Installation was very easy.
Would have given 5 out of 5 but we can only fill it with 13, not 15 gallons. Installation was very easy.
