Style Name:Turn Box Sharpener | Size:One Size Product Description The Turn Box family is a very stable and compact knife sharpening system. It works well in the kitchen and it quickly breaks down for storage in a drawer. The turn box family of knife sharpeners is also great for outdoorsmen on the go because it is lightweight and stores easily into a backpack. It only takes a few swipes to maintain an edge (a bit more if you have a really dull knife). There are two pre-set knife sharpening angles in the wood block 20 degree & 25 degree25 Degrees - This is used for most kitchen knives and provides a sharp, durable edge.20 Degrees - This is used for those desiring a very sharp edge. Some examples would be for filet knives or cutting tomatoes. Lower degrees result in sharper knives, but require more regular maintenance. This 2-Stage Knife Sharpening System features a hardwood turnbox with internal rod storage in the base, and four 5" long alumina ceramic rods. (2 medium grit grey rods, 2 fine grit white rods) Box Contains 2 x 5" alumina ceramic medim grit sharpening rods 2 x 5" alumina ceramic fine grit polishing rods 1 x hardwood base / storage unit

THIS! ! ! Buy this!
An absolutely fantastic piece of kit for the price. There's plenty more at 3x the price and more, but I can't imagine 3x the performance. It's only for maintaining an edge. If you need to put a proper edge back on your blade, then you need something that will thin the blade enough to hone it to your desired sharpness. I have the Lansky sharpening kit - the one with the stones and the blade-clamp/guide - which is cracking in it's own right. But once you've used that kit and just need to hone a good edge when you notice a dulling, this kit is easy and handy to set up and use. A dozen strokes and you're back in the game! Just remember to keep good steady pressure of the blade on the rods - Take it easy! Slow consistent strokes - You don't need to pretend you're a chef with a steel sharpener.I've got a few of those handy EDC sharpeners, with the carbine and ceramic sharpeners - Absolutely waste of draw-space now. I can get a razor-sharp edge with this (and I mean razor-sharp!) use the EDC type and my blade doesn't cut the mustard! Half a dozen strokes on the Lansky rods and I the contrast in sharpness is stark!

Don't expect this to work on really blunt or damaged blades
This is a nicely-designed, reasonably-priced, stylish-looking item. The way the ceramic rods store inside the case is particularly neat. When packed down, it will fit neatly into a kitchen drawer, and only takes a minute to set up. The angled mounting of the rods make it reasonably easy to grind at a specific angle.But...Both the kinds of grinding rods provided are comparatively fine. In fact, both feel completely smooth to the touch. I wouldn't know which was supposed to be the finer grit except for the colours. So, while I have been able to use this sharpener to keep a fine edge on knives that are already basically well-maintained, they do little for blades that are badly blunt. To be fair, I can get a bit of an edge on very blunt knives after much hard work, but it's clearly not the tool for the job. It should go without saying that this sharpener will be completely useless on blades that are actually damaged or nicked. In summary, this is a useful sharpener for people who are diligent about regular sharpening and maintenance. Those of us who use their knives until they are as blunt as a sausage, and then sharpen them with a file, need something different.

Simply fantastic
I got this today so this isn’t a long-term review, though I don’t imagine that would really change anything...this is amazing. This is a must-have for any knife owner. Kitchen knives would benefit and field knives and every day carry knives benefit hugely. It’s an absolute doddle to use and unless you struggle with a steady hand, you’ll be fine. Just keep the knife straight. This won’t repair chips in the blade, but it’ll keep your knives sharp. Ten passes on both sets of rods brought my penknife back to shaving sharp (seriously).I do imagine at some point that the screw hinge of the box might fail, but I really don’t care: the whole thing can just go in a box and the rods left out.I strongly, strongly recommend this, over any sharpener I’ve ever had (Lanksy field sharpeners have their place but this is a necessity!)

No 20 degree option
I would have given 5 stars because it is easy to use and works well. BUT I was disappointed (and amazed) that the set of holes marked 20 deg is actually 25 degrees, so no option for the sharper (but less durable) lower angle. I almost returned it but opted instead to drill my own 20 degree holes near the 20 degree markings. Luckily I didn't mess it up and these are the only holes I have used since. Obviously it could be a one off but hard to think how they made the error. Just a heads up, as I said, in principle a great little tool.

Quality Control Failure
Either this was a factory reject but sold as new, or the Quality Control at the factory is non existent. The Storage holes for the sharpening rods in the box, have all been under drilled; so that they are too short for the rods to fit into!!!I can drill and extend the holes, but why should I have to?I'd be interested to hear what the Seller has to say? Most disappointing.

Simple. Safe. Stable. Sharp!
The simplicity and effectiveness of this sharpening set can't be overstated. It's simple, compact, and should be a mainstay in every kitchen or workshop. The wooden case acts as storage and sharpening stand for the two sets of rods. There are two angle settings cut into the block: 20 degrees for most kitchen knives and 25 degrees for a more durable edge on outdoor or hunting knives. Know which setting you need? Well, that's it... the hard part is done.Sharpening is as simple as cutting down vertically along the rods with an equal number of strokes on both sides of the blade. It's safe because the hand that is used to stabilize the wood block is kept well away from the sharpening side. After only a few passes, our steak knives were razor sharp. I started with one as a test (using the ol' paper slicing test) and then couldn't help myself and proceeded to finish off the other 7 knives and start on the rest of the kitchen knives in the cutting block.I have other more advanced sharpening tools consisting of various levels of coarseness, but I wanted something simple that my wife is comfortable using without her worrying about destroying her knives. This fits the bill perfectly and ensures that both us are safer in the kitchen by not having dull knives that easily slip and cut.
