I have owned a similar device in the past and on the whole it was excellent although I have yet to catch a really big rat with it..In the past I used the simple and cheap wooden rat traps. The one’s that almost take your fingers off every time you try to set them. Whilst they were effective I didn’t like the thought that I might lose a digit in the process. Also I had to put on disposable gloves when removing the dead rat as I nearly always had to come into contact with them when removing them from the trap. Also the overly-sensitive traps often went off without a rat being anywhere near.This device is similar to the wooden ones in that it has an arm that gets pulled back into position and then activates when anything touches a small platform containing the food. However the really excellent thing about this design is that the whole process occurs inside a box and that the trap can be set with the box closed by pulling a plastic strip until you hear the device click into the set position. Your fingers are therefore nowhere near the actual trap and there is no chance whatsoever of getting your fingers damaged.The other great thing about this trap is that when you come to dispose of the captured rat you can lower the whole box into a bag and then pull the plastic strip which opens the trap and lets the late rat drop into the bag without your hands being anywhere near it.As for actually catching rats I have managed to catch smaller rats in the past but there is a much bigger rat that occasionally comes into the garden and so far I have not caught him. Whether this is due to the trap itself is difficult to say. It may just be the bigger rat has survived all this time by being a bit smarter than the rest!Overall I thoroughly recommend this type of device for all the reasons above. Given its effectiveness and safety it is well worth paying a bit more than the cheaper but less effective and more dangerous traps.

These rat traps are basically super-sized, extra-large traditional spring-loaded mouse traps inside plastic housing.The advantage of the housing is that the traps are kept safely away from careless fingers and prowling pets etc.The housing is hinged and is opened using the small plastic key that is clipped to the side (rather annoyingly one of my pair was missing the key) The traps are then baited using some of the attractant included or other suitable food stuffs such as peanut butter, cheese or chocolate. The housing is then closed again.The traps are loaded by pulling on the plastic strip that comes out of the rear of the trap housing. This keeps your fingers safely away from the trap in the event of a false activation. This clever design also means that you can release and tip out any dead pests without having to handle them.Once loaded the traps can be positioned wherever you are experiencing the pest problem.I had hoped that I could use these traps outside to deal with rats, as I am concerned about the way traditional poisons can be passed up the food chain to other animals. However, I am slightly concerned that the trap mechanism is positioned quite close to the front opening and that other animals such as squirrels might squeeze their heads in and get caught.

These are good strong traps and boxes, the only fault I find with them is the key to open them. If you don’t have much strength in your hand or fingers then pushing the red key in to release the lid may be a bit of an issue for you, but a small flat blade screwdriver will also pop it open so don’t let it put you off.The boxes are well made and hinged well, the trap sits securely inside the box and the simple cable tie from trap through the box is ideal. This hopefully saves you having to open the box again after you have set the food grade attractant, hopefully once Roland had met his maker, all you need to do is pull on the cable tie to release the deceased into a bin and re-set the trap making it so much easier to get rid of and keep clean.There is more than enough attractant in the syringe for a good few refills also.

This is a great idea. It's a basic mousetrap design, super-sized for a rat, and placed inside a box with an opening big enough to accommodate a rat, but not say a dog.The trap can be set from outside the box by means of a plastic strip that pokes out the rear.Once the rat is caught, you can then use the box as a carrier to ferry the rat to the dustbin and release it without needing to touch it!The whole thing is sturdily built and reusable.The traps come supplied with some "bait", but peanut butter works really well too.

Having used rat traps in the past that were more of a danger to me when setting them than possibly to the rats these are so safe and easy to use.Just use the little attached key to unlock, place some bait or attractant in the little dish and click shut the lid and replace key in its holder. Then put in position and pull the red plastic tape to set the trap, no chance of catching your fingers and can be put in place before setting so it does not go off as you are moving it.I have not actually caught any rats yet but can see they should be easy to dispose of without handling them, just pull the red tape and shake them into a bag.Recommended .

These traps feel sturdy. They are easy to set up by pulling the tab at the rear to set the trap. They are so strong when triggered, I touched with a piece of paper and the trap sprang down rapidly. Gave me a fright how quick it was. Haven’t caught anything as yet but hopefully previous measures have solved our rat problem
