Q: Does the device fit both ends of the Xbox or just one?

The Device is a platform for the Xbox stands on, however it only supports the Xbox in the orientation seen in the picture (Power button closer to the ground)

Q: Is this for 1st generation xbox one?

yes. and I have to say, XBOX ONE is not recommended in a vertical position w/o additional cooling

I have been using mine for around one year and have not had any problems with. I would recommend it.
