Great for ideas for your layout

Everything you need and things you didn’t even know are right at your fingertips in this little book. By far the single best purchase I’ve spent. It’s a timesaver. Sure there’s things you “KNOW” but it’s the things you think you know that just aren’t true that screw you up. This book is chocked full of Tribal Knowledge for Model Railroaders. To not utilize it you risk making mistakes that don’t need to be made. It will pay for itself in just 3 mistakes avoided.

When I first saw this book I was skeptical. Everything is available on the internet, right? What use is there for another reference book?I bought it anyway and I'm very glad I did. This book is very complete in the topics it covers. It may not go into the depth you need but you will start your search with the basics and alternatives.If you need to get an answer to a modeling question you are much more likely to find that answer faster in this book. The organization is very intuitive. You can't say that about the internet.The author is an NMRA Master Model Railroader and has been teaching modeling a long time. You may have seen one of his many videos and articles. You will not find bad advice.My biggest surprise was not the quality of information. It was the wide variety of topics and the way it was organized.Buy the book. You will not be dissappointed if you are looking for a reference guide, a quick comparison of alternatives, or a broad overview.
