Q: Can you apply it over old chinking?

Log Jam is compatible with itself, so you can definitely reapply over older Log Jam. If you're hoping to use it over another manufacturer's chinking we recommend a small test area after cleaning the surface thoroughly. Q: What tools are needed and how much will one tube of LOG JAM cover for a 1 inch wide 3/4 deep

Here's what I used. I used a 1 1/4 inch wide tapered wood shim that one typically uses for installing windows and doors in rough frame work. I rounded the edges of the shim and used it as a trowel to apply the chinking. I think you could easily get at least a 100 linear feet at one inch wide and 3/4 deep. I had a very similar job where the space was 1 1/2 in. wide and 1 1/2 deep. I nailed ina 3/8 or so thick wood filler and then 7/8 thick open cell backer rod over the wood filler to reduce the depth of the chinking to about 1/4 thick to 3/8 of an inch. It doesn't need to be 3/4 deep. 1/4 to 3/8 is plenty. Never had any problems splitting of shrinking.

Q: Is this product paintable?

Log Jam is paintable. It will need to be clean and ideally, coated with an elastomeric (stretchy) paint. If the Log Jam is fresh, it can be coated within 24 hours with a water-based product and 5-7 days with an oil-based paint.
