I have a newer macbook air and this connected to my tv with no problems. The sound transfers to the tv for you, so you do not have to use a separate cord for it.

Works great, well built
Wanted to have the ability to hook my Surface Pro or my wife's Macbook to our TV, this was just the ticket. Seems very well built and durable, works perfectly.
