Great waterproofing for leather.
I used these on my work boots which are not of exceptional quality but good enough. Prior to application they were not waterproof at all, and after a couple of applications they are as waterproof as you can reasonably expect leather boots to be. I am a ranger for a country park with two wet meadows, so I am often walking through tall wet grass, which would normally leave boots soaking for those who don't know - I have not had a problem with this since using this product. Obviously this does not make boots 100% waterproof - stand ankle deep in water and you'll still get wet. But for most people's purposes this is perfect.I would recommend them as someone who works outside all day - when my boots get wet, they stay wet - this product has made all the difference in the world to my comfort levels throughout the day.It slightly darkened the leather of my boots but not in a significant way, or more so than a similar product would.I reapply every couple of months and it works great - smear on to the leather, work in, leave to absorb for fifteen minutes, and then wipe dry. I have heard that too frequent applications can soften the leather too much, but avoid this and you should be fine.

Good
I've previously reviewed this item before and this is the second time I've used it on my boots - admittedly I may have used it too little. But I avoid wearing my boots in rain anyway and they only come out in autumn/winter.Just to show the way in which the oil darkens the leather. The first time I did this I panicked but no oil/conditioner is going to leave the colour unaffected. The boots darken but with time and wear the original colour comes out, as you can see in the first photo. Can be messy to apply if you're not careful, but I'd recommend this and it's clear from other reviews that this product has been used on different types of leather footwear.

Excellent for oiled leather Birks!
I was a bit apprehensive about using this because it’s a byproduct from an animal and I’d read stories about it ruining leather products. Safe to say this is amazing stuff!!I purchased a pair of oiled leather Birks and they scrape up fairly easily but the smallest amount of this stuff buffs out the scratches and actually made them look better than when I first purchased them new - see before and after pictures. It will darken initially, but use the mink oil sparingly with a micro fibre cloth to buff it as you go and it’ll not over-darken the leather when it’s dried. You get a mass amount for the money and I feel this would be an excellent product for any leather shoe (except suede obviously) to bring the leather back to looking new!Haven’t tested the waterproof efficiency though, but hoping it does the job!

works like it should
Bought after doing research. Absolute a1 product. On leather one application gave deep lustre and hid scratches really well. Honestly. Not new shoes but renewed character of well loved shoes just with ome application never mind polishing out further.
