Re: Good product for use with stains
Fills the grain very well for a smooth finish when using stains. Prior to using this, sand down to at least 220 grit, wiping with tack cloth between sandings. Practice on scrap first. This is a water based product, so I would suggest using water based stains. You won't have to worry about how an oil based stain will work, plus, it's easier to clean up and doesn't stink as bad.

Works as described but takes more than you think.
This stuff is awesome. I had a bottle of this container of this that was so old was starting to crust around the edges and I decided to try this one cause it’s new and improved my take away is it’s definitely new but as far as improved goes, I think that’s more on scientific terms or notable to somebody that knows about its molecular structure. It seemed to work the same as my old one, but then again that one was pretty old so if I had the chance to buy it again in comparison to the older version, I would still choose this one.Great thing is it does fill grain in wood quite fast, but I’ve also used it with various composites and it does help fill pinholes, but generally takes a few coats and and then I sand it off then clear coat.Good value.

There is a learning curve on how to use.
It does fill in the grain lines but it’s not as easy as they make it seem. There must be a learning curve because this is the first time I have used a product as this. I’m still learning but it does make the wood very smooth.

Works great
My go-to surface sealant when woodworking. I use it under any clear finish like poly, shellac, water based finishes, etc. Takes about a half hour to dry, then a light sanding to flatten and repeat as needed. For open pore woods it may take two or three applications to fill the pores. Then the final surface finish goes on beautifully.

It cracks.
It cracks on thin coats, older version was better.

Easy to apply and great results
I saw this product mentioned in a Fine Woodworking video and thought I would give it a try on project I was starting in red oak. Did a great job of filling the pours and resulted in a very smooth finish. I typically finish with a homemade wipe-on concoction of oil and varnish, basically the “Maloof” finish, and the first coat came out very smooth. Super easy to apply, use two applications for best result, wait 45 minutes between applications and sand lightly with 320 grit. It’s ready for the first coat of finish after curing over night. It does seem to slightly tone down the amber glow you normally get with an oil finish applied to untreated wood.

Arrived in reasonable time, as yet not used. A little expensive. Look forward to finding time to use on project.
