Suddenly Sixty: And Other Shocks of Later Life (Judith Viorst's Decades)

Thank you, Judith Viorst!
Okay, so I'm not the first person to see 60 come and go! However, I did experience a not-so-terrific lonely feeling. Fortunately, I remembered reading Ms. Viorst's other books of like nature from When Did I Stop Being Twenty? to Unexpectedly Eighty.Off I went to procure Suddenly Sixty. I'm very glad I did. Reading Suddenly Sixty, a warm book with just the right amount of humor, reassured and comforted me. It also made me laugh and when I can laugh about something I have accepted whatever it is that I have been resisting. I knew I could count on Judith Viorst!Perhaps you don't know that Judith Viorst is the author of an amazingly large and diverse number of books from the children's classic Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day (and the three other "Alexander" books); to such adult classics as Necessary Losses. Look at Amazon's Judith Viorst author page to see all her titles.I would love to meet the author of so many of my favorite books. I think every child should read, or be read, the first Alexander book. Actually, I would think adults, and everyone in between would enjoy Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. Who can resist this first line?"I went to sleep with gum in my mouth and now there's gum in my hair and when I got out of bed this morning I tripped on the skateboard and by mistake I dropped my sweater in the sink and I could tell it was going to be a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day."As I said, I'd like to have the opportunity to meet Ms. Viorst. In the meantime, I have her books--and you do, too, whether from Amazon, your local book store or your local library. If you are around sixty, read Suddenly Sixty. If you are around the start of a different decade, read the book appropriate to the decade. You can also read delightful children's books, and many adult books. I've yet to read a Judith Viorst book I didn't like.Despite the negative aspects of life today, it is an amazing thing that we are surrounded by a wealth of wonderful reading. I highly recommend Suddenly Sixty as well as other books written by this wonderful writer.Enjoy!

Cute
This booke was cute, but not the Writerโs funniest. It would make a nice 60th Birthday gift at a party. But if you want to read it, I would suggest, borrowing it from the library! JT

Love it!
Itโs such a fun book and hits the nail on the head about things women certainly notice as we move into a new decade.

Wisdom and Humor to Help When One Turns 60!
Oh I've read Judith Viorst's books since I was a teenager and my mother received her book How Did I Get to be 40 and Other Atrocities for HER 40th birthday. Then Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day became a favorite of my children. Needing some wisdom and humor now that I'm 60, I bought this for myself! I cannot believe how many of her poems resonated! Are we all truly more alike than different? A great book! Order it!

Classic
Judith is brilliant. I aspire to half of her writing skills. All of her books childrenโs, ages, & the philosophical books such as Necessary Losses. So well written. She is magical. I heard her speak at a luncheon 25 years ago. I laughed out loud, cried real tears & smiled a lot. Donโt miss out on Judith Viorst.

Lightweight, but Quality
I always love Viorst, but this tome is very thin with sparse verse. Still, Viorst's words are clever and empathetic and would bear reading over and over again.

Have loved her writing since her Redbook days.
She makes me laugh and it feels like she lives in my house and knows what goes on! She even makes the aggravating events funny.

Arrived filthy.
This book arrived with a blood coloured substance on the front and throughout the pages. Who sends stuff out like this . Was meant to be a gift . I have dumped it as I refuse to send this through the post. What a waste of my money

A great little birthday book
A great little book of short poems with some amusing, wry insights into hitting 60 and the way life has become, almost unnoticed. I've given it to several people and all have enjoyed it. A very good loo book but the visitor tends to stay too long!

disappointed fan
Much more formulaic than her earlier work.
