Q: What is the length of Average and what is the depth of the pockets?

I am five feet seven and the pants are long enough. I ordered size 14 Average. I have washed them five or six times and also dried them in the dryer and they have not drawn up. The pockets are deep enough for my cell phone 6s.

Q: What is a size 12a (as opposed to 12p); what's the significance of the "a"? see no reference to it on the size chart.

Size 12 A is for average height like if you are 5' 5" and above. Size 12P is for petite like 5'4" and under. I am 5'4" and size 12P is perfect length for me when I am wearing tennis shoes or flats. So if you want to wear heels, you might want to a longer length. Hope this helps.
