Men's Expedition North Field Post Solar 36mm Watch

The simplest watch there is
The media could not be loaded. I have a 7-inch wrist and I would like to think that it's the average size (judging from the pictures I have seen from other reviews.) The watch came in from Amazon with zero charge so I charged it for about an hour using a solar watch charger and that brought it back to life. I found that you could charge a solar watch from empty to full in about 5 hours. What I like about this watch is that it fits and feels right on my wrist, is not ostentatious, not flashy, and doesn't crave for attention. You could read the time very well outdoors and even indoors. Even in the dark, the lume is laid-back, but you could still tell the time from the triangular hour markers and the hour and minute hands of the watch. I also like that it has a screw-down case back. I like to tinker with my gadgets and a screw-down case back allows me easy access to the battery when it's time to be replaced. It's also solar-powered, has a 4-month power reserve, an easy-to-operate crown, and has sapphire crystal to boot!Fun fact: I found out recently that they made these watches in Timex's watch factory in Cebu, Philippines. By purchasing it from Amazon, it actually did a return trip back here in the Philippines!Update after a month's use: I changed the strap with a black NATO one and it looks even better with the matte finish of the case. The charge appears to remain strong. I'll probably notice the weird erratic second hand movement (the watch does this when the charge is about to drain) after 4 months. Until then, it's not time for a recharge.

Looks good for now. I like it.
[Added after most of the review was written: I might have received a returned watch. Timex's documentation notes that the watch ships with a small plastic tab underneath the crown. There was no tab underneath the crown of the watch I received. It's possible it was a returned item, sold as if it were new. I will keep it for now, however. It was in brand new condition and in good working order. Just something to keep an eye out for.]For now, 4 stars rather than 5 because I don't have enough experience with how well the watch holds up or maintains accuracy. If Amazon had half stars, I'd have taken off ½ for the watch band. :-)I purchased it after returning a Citizen solar watch of similar design. The Citizen was a little too large for my wrist and had some functionality problems. No such problems with the 36mm Timex.VisibilityIf you're looking for a simple and easily readable design, you'll probably like this model a lot.I see in Timex watch reviews that some users are frustrated by the low contrast between the numerals and the backgrounds. With this model the numbers don't jump right out at you—they aren't bright white. But, they are bright enough to be plenty visible.Luminous dialDespite exposure to either bright light or indirect bright light, the hands and numerals aren't visible in the dark for very long. Not a deal-breaker for me, though it might be for you.Watch bandThe supplied watch band is nothing special and I'll replace it. (Bad choice of color on Timex's part, in my opinion. Black or dark army green would have been better, considering the black case.)SettingI like the design of the crown. Turn it counterclockwise to release it. It pops out. Pull it slightly more and it comes all the way out. Then you can set the watch. Then, press it in slightly and begin turning clockwise to tighten it down. Simple. The Citizen watch I returned was not so easy, with a fiddly three-position mechanism that wasn't easy to use. The simpler Timex design is way more to my liking.ChargingThe watch didn't have much charge in the battery as received. About an hour and a half of leaving it in bright sun seems to have charged it up nicely. I'm not sure if that was enough to charge it fully. The watch lets you know when it needs a charge because its second hand behaves oddly when the battery is depleted (if it moves at all, that is).DocumentationAs with the Citizen watch, there's almost no documentation in the box. Both companies could do better in this regard, Timex in particular given how simple the winding and setting procedures are. At any rate, with not too much trouble you can find the documentation online, and it's adequate.PricingI'm a bit perplexed by the pricing. This watch has no calendar functions (fine by me) but costs a bit more than other Timex watches within the same model line. I'm not regretting my purchase but I am curious about this pricing difference. At the time of writing this review, Timex is out of stock of this model on their own web site. Maybe it's just a supply and demand thing...

simple, water resistant, accurate, and seems durable
I have had the watch for a few weeks and it has exceeded my expectations. Sapphire crystal face - still perfectly clear after some, mostly light, every-day wear and tear, and an occasional scrape with a wall, and even a couple drops. Movement & accuracy - from what I can see the movement is quite accurate and well within a range that I am happy with. It gains, perhaps, 3/4 of a second per day when compared with the sweep hand on my I phone. In fact, that may be settling down a little now that I have had it for several days. Bottom line, it keeps perfectly accurate time for all but the most finicky. Screw down crown is key and works well. Check it before you go into the water. I snorkeled almost every day in Vieques recently and never took the watch off once. It is watertight and could probably handle much more that showers, pools, and light swimming. I like this watch a lot. Simple, sharp, and reliable. If that's what you want and don't need to make a statement from your wrist, this is an excellent choice. I'm hoping it holds up longer than watches which I have had that are meant to make a statement; I have a feeling it will.

Product was not new and defective
The watch was not new as there was no protective plastic as there should be according to the manual. Furthermore it was defective. When the crown is screwed in, the watch stops working when the second hand passes the 10 dial.

Quite the time piece
The first thing I want to mention, besides the fact that it delivers as promised, is the saphire which shines with brilliant diamont like flashes along the edge- often in the sun it hits the printed numbers on the dial which makes it shine in the colors of the rainbow. On my watch, the seconds hand hits the mark everytime except for perhaps 2 or 3 places around the minute markers. A welcome surprise at the price range.I have had it run at something like atomic time, neither losing or gaining seconds for a week. All in all, I am so happy with this watch that it has easily become one of my favorite watches- I can't wait to wear it when I am not to be honest. You can find a video review I made of it on youtube, look for the thumbnail attached.Had a great experience with the seller, would buy any day of the week!

Very good everyday every moment watch.
I have a Longines and I do not want to used it every day and/or for work. This Timex watch is a perfect watch for work, in every environment, and almost for every situation. Ls like the Caterpillar of watches and additionally is very good-looking.

Unfussy. Comfortable.
The strap is starting to show some really light wear - I saw some complaints about that. I love it! It needs more character. The photos in the description are meh. It looks much better in real life.Indiglo would've been really handy. But I also appreciate that it's not trying to be all things to all people. This watch does not yell. It nods.

Gostei bastante
The media could not be loaded.

Fabulous small sized military watch. Very poor strap.
Lovely compact field watch.Rolex style screw down crown.Sapphire Crystal.Never needs a battery.I would have liked a date but that’s not that important to me.Love the watch very much however the strap is really pathetic. Firstly the strap's colour is much lighter than in the photo. It’s also very thin. At the price it’s quite shocking to sell it with this strap. Will return and look for something else
