Some apps like the ign app wont work
The android 4.4.4 version is a bit outdated I think. Some apps like the ign app wont work. It won't play some of the newest android games too well. Ravensword has heavy glitching and won't recognize the game pad, spiderman 2 runs pretty well but a bit choppie and it did crash on me once. It is good for digital comics and the buttons are pretty good, nice d pad, similar to a DS xl. The sticks are nice. It emulates well for SNES, nes, the out of the box GBA emulator is trash though, so you will have to get a different one. Its an OK device but it's probably only worth about $200.

Overpriced garbage.
This thing is loaded with tabs, outdated emulators and lots of things that you cannot remove....massive amount of bloatware and the only way to get rid of it is going through a complicated process of removing the operating system to install a different one that carries a chance of bricking your system randomly and rendering it a $200 paper weight. This thing is FAR too expensive to be as frustratingly limited as it is as far as customization goes. It also has massive problems finding your SD card on 99% of apps you will download...they look for your SD card in a pre-determined location that is the standard place for it to be....so of course the GPD XD paths it in an entirely different and hard to find area that most apps can not access it...you can manually path it on some apps, but not most.

This thing is amazing. Super solid construction
This thing is amazing. Super solid construction. Not cheap junk from China. Great screen. Lots of buttons. Plays all the systems with ease. The last handheld you will buy. Just amazing.

Uncomfortable to hold
Looked like it would work well for emulation, however i immediately found it uncomfortable to hold. The shoulder buttons are positioned poorly in relation to the face buttons and sticks. I found them very uncomfortable and almost impossible to use naturally. Single biggest reason for my return, I found the physical design that poor.

Garbage unit and Garbage Amazon warranty
L1 button stopped working after a month playing it. Tried to go through the extra warranty i bought through amazon. Pure garbage. I have to wait until the manufacturer warranty is over??? Trying to get support from China. No thanks. Now my GPD XD is smashed to bits on my drive way. I knew it was a gamble buying this device from a chinese android clone company but i didnt think it would fail after a month. Oh well. No more GPD devices for me or any other clone android device.

Great portable emulation machine
I just recently got a GPD XD. It's pretty rock solid, but not perfect. I'll walk through my impressions. The box it is packaged in is bizarre. It's almost all completely white, with a small cartoon drawing in the center. It's someone laughing and crying at the same time. On the side of the box it simply says "GPD", and on the back there is a quote -- "When you smile, the world loves him; When you laugh, the world fears him". I don't really get what this has to do with a handheld gaming console... you wouldn't even know what it was from the box.The black model looks nice. The top (back of the screen) is glossy, the rest of it is matte. I booted it up, and at first noticed some uneven light / light bleeding around part of the edge of the screen. It's not noticeable or distracting when you're playing games or doing anything really, but when I see stuff like that I think that I would never see something like that on a Nintendo product. In some reviews I've seen people claim this is better quality than a 3DS and that's simply not true. The screen really does look great, aside from that minor complaint. Very bright, very vivid, just totally rock solid. I've gotten another one of these Chinese android gaming consoles a few years ago and the screen was a washed out disaster -- not this. It's awesome. After booting it up you're presented with some sort of custom Android launcher that GPD has made. There are 4 sections: EMULATOR, GAME, APPLICATION, and SETTING. The emulator section has 5 emulators that are a part of the built-in menu, labeled as follows: Arcade, N64, SFC, DC, and PS1. Couple things about this struck me as slightly unusual - if there's going to be some dedicated section for emulators, I was surprised to see things like Super Nintendo there, but the original NES is missing... and seems strange that Dreamcast is there, but not Sega Genesis or something. Opening up some of these sections I was also surprised to see a handful of selections of ROMs that were included straight from the factory.I also notice on this custom launcher some typos - like to open something you can press A to "Comfirm" it rather than Confirm. It doesn't detract from the functionality of it, but it makes it feel cheap and unpolished. As far as actual emulation goes, in general it seems quite good. The only issue I experienced was unusual, with the Dreamcast emulator a game I tried was a little skippy/jumpy during an FMV sequence but actual gameplay was fine. I'm more interested in playing older consoles so it didn't bother me anyway.D pad is great, all the buttons feel great. Only button complaint is the shoulder buttons make a pretty loud clicking sound. I prefer them to be quieter, but not a big deal. This is a common complaint in reviews for the GPD XD as well - the bottom portion of the device has a lot of unused space. Would have been amazing if there was a small keyboard or something there. In short, hardware is pretty rock solid but not perfect, packaging is bizarre, software works fine but is a little unpolished, but overall it does what it set out to do quite nicely. It's not perfect, but it's really really good.

screen doesn't work!
I Hated it! I feel scamed! After a few months of using it the screen for whatever reason stopped working! The screen just shows a blank cloud fogging over it! Don't waste you money and buy a Nintendo switch instead!!
