This go kart has a high-tensile steel frame, pneumatic off-road tires and disc brakes, all powered by a 48V, 1000 watt brush motor. Besides a standard seat belt, extra safety comes from a speed control limiting system that lets parents choose from 10, 13 and 17 mph settings. An adjustable seat fits most children up to approximately 165 lbs. *NOTE: Tires may vary from model shown

Not worth the hassle or cost. Someone else, please build/sell a decent electric gokart.
This is not worth the headache or $870, period. Unless you are mechanically inclined and are prepared to spend five or six hours working on, don't waste your time. Yes, if it works properly, your 10 year old will have some fun...but since the steering radius is so wide, isn't really possible to do much unless you're doing circles in a big park. The first unit shipped to me was the incorrect model (a small ATV), when the correct model was delivered, the battery box was smashed (making it un-driveable), then the replacement has defective steering (the wheels & steering alignment are so off that it will only drive strait or turn left). Also, when driving the motor/drive train will make loud noises as if it is skipping a sprocket or something...This ships by freight, so you must be home to receive the shipment (in this case, three days wasted to wait for the truck driver).Note: This was expected, but just FYI, The unit is big enough for a 10-12 yr old (depending on their size) max!. There is another vendor selling this same unit, but listing it as "ages 13 and up". This is inaccurate since a teenager won't fit in this. The picture shows the steering as full right turn (which is completely useless).

you get what you pay for chinese electric gokart gobowen
I bough this direct from family gokarts on their website. They were "okay" on getting the order to me. no big deal.it comes in metal frame crate.it comes with the roll cage not installed. its is a PITA to install and the threads were stripped.-second, the steering radius is terrible.the control arms on the spindles have 2 holes, the tie rods arrive on the farthest out hole out of 2 holes. I simply moved it to the hole closest to the center of the wheel and it is now able to turn reasonably well.HOWEVER, with weight of driver and rear mounted battery, it understeers like crazy. in fact, it will just push so hard with any speed that turning involves getting wholly off the throttle and slowing to a literal crawl to make any kind of turn that is in line with the turning radius.-the battery life is VERY good. not sure if it gets the full rated 4 hours on a charge but the kids are done (age 7-13) before the battery is.-we got 2 at the same time.the frame is made of pretty thin material, it is apparently not meant to really protect in event of hitting anything(fence post on low and dinged tube)-a tall adult CAN drive one... it may not be fast(weight) but it WILL go. and by tall, i mean sit on the top of the back of the seat, slide your feet into footwell, and slip your bottom down into the seat which you have previously put a THICK seat cushion on.and your 6'4" 170# can actually drive it.-the chain drive will need to be adjusted after a few hours of use and observed-its noisy and gets real loose. easy to adjust.-the fail is that the front wheel spindle bearings fail after 1-2 sessions.-they fail spectacularly. In fact, I thought they were plastic bushings they failed so badly.-within 30 days after first driving, i noticed a heck of a noise from the front end and could see the wheel flopping in and out as the kids drove the kart.I lifted the front off the ground and could move the top of the front wheels in and outward over 1 inch each way.Today I unbolted the front spindle and a TON of parts fell out, balls, bearing cages, metal shavings, metal washers that actually turned out to be parts of a former bearing. the top bearing race was so damaged it had become part of the spindle and without using my puller and liquid wrench, is not coming out.there was a single metal tube from top to bottom that appears to have originally been connected? to the upper and lower bearing, it was galled up and in several pieces.WOW!if they dont send replacement parts, i will have to create a whole sleeve that gets pounded into the spindle and install some sort of thrust washer top and bottom.oh, and wow-do not buy expecting any sort of quality.if you pay the chinese the $850 they are asking for plus shipping, you are paying $200/each too much.-I left a online service request with family gokarts and heard back right away, this review will be updated as soon as this issue is ended. HOPEFULLY with replacement parts I dont have to pay for.

Horrible Turning Radius - but really really quick.
There is one major design flaw - the unit has a horrible turning radius. This video goes over a solution to that design flaw - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UgedweM2zE - other than the fact you can't turn around in a normal width street - the rest of the go-kart is great - really fast and lasts for a long time on a single charge. But you will need to mod the unit to fix the steering issue before you kids will be happy with this.

... delt with Familygokarts in the past and they are horrible when it comes to warranty
I've delt with Familygokarts in the past and they are horrible when it comes to warranty, or getting any type of help. They will take youre money quick, but never back up the product regardless of what the issues are.

Poorly built
Ours lasted a year or so before everything started breaking down..which is fine if there was some support in fixing it, however familygokarts does NOTHING to help...buy a go kart with better troubleshooting /support from the company.
