These work as expected and are visually appealing. I use them with a dusk-dawn switch to keep just enough light by the front door to get the key in but not be bright enough to attract bugs.Here's the timer I'm using:  Woods 2001 Outdoor Outlet Timer w/ Photocell Light Sensor, Weatherproof, 24-Hours Mechnical, Black

There's would be five start but the cord is white not brown so it is very obvious.....bad call by the manufacturer. Lanterns very cute though.

These are perfect for our patio! I know some of the reviews complain that they are small, but if you know what size you are getting when you order, you will be pleased.

They give off a softer glow than anticipated, but work for our needs!
