Q: Does this fit most chafing dishes?

I think so. It fits in the same hole the can of Sterno would normally go.

Q: One review says it boils water on low. Is there any way to keep something just slightly warm without boiling?

I just used these for Thanksgiving. I had them out on low for over an hour and the water didn’t boil. The food stayed hot.

Q: So if a chafer runs with 2 sterno units, would i need also 2 of the vollrath units for this chafer?

You would be able to use 1 unit. The unit itself can warm the entire chafer and you can control the amount of heat being provided. Hope this helps.

Q: what is the length of the cord ?

Long enough that I connected 4 chafing dishes in a row to a single power strip. It’s 3-4’.

Great idea for regular useage

Much better than sternos if you are using these regularly. We cater lunch at our office weekly and use these instead of the exhaustible fire versions. Pay for themselves in the long run.
